Africa-Press – Seychelles. With the growing interest of the participants in the third cinematographic and audiovisual workshop that ended after two weeks, the professor, Dr. Didier Mauro noted that there is no doubt that Seychellois have a lot of creativity and talent.

The quality of the work produced at the end of these two weeks of training testifies to the development and growth of cinematographic and audiovisual production in Seychelles.

Speaking at a press conference at ICCS after the third training workshop in cinema and audiovisual in Seychelles from 17 to 28 October, the cinematographer, filmmaker and professor, Dr. Didier Mauro said that the main goal was to train personalities who already have a basic training and also those who start from A to Z.

The group of 16 people learned the art and technique of everything that is audiovisual: cinema, television and video.

“Our medium-term objective is to enable the emergence of Seychellois cinematographic work of international quality and it’s completely feasible.” Our goal is to create an international pool of audiovisual cinematographic creation with both the training component of local human resources and the technical component. We want to make Seychellois works of great quality emerge and I’m sure we’ll get there,” emphasized Dr. Mauro.

Professor Mauro wanted to highlight that in the entire region of the Indian Ocean and East Africa, there is a huge need for training and also for creation. The Seychelles are an ideal place to create a pool and become a leader at the international level, in this region.

“This is the third time I have come to the Seychelles and I can say that there is absolute serenity here and this is important to be able to work well,” added Dr. Mauro.

The Dr. Mauro said he was also satisfied by the enthusiasm and commitment sustained by the participants. During the training, the subjects to be treated were varied and there were imposed subjects as well as free subjects.

Regarding equipment, Dr. Mauro pointed out that all the participants in the workshop used their cell phones for the training.

For this part, M. Emmanuel d’Offay, the executive director of the Seychelles Creative Agency, thanked Dr. Mauro for his great interest in working with the Seychellois. He also commented on the growing interest of Seychellois to follow these cinematographic and audiovisual trainings.

“The group has expanded from 12 for the first two workshops – in 2018 and 2019 to 16 in 2022 with ages ranging from 16, 20 to 67 years old. We are very proud of the creative industry and our goal is to officially launch the film industry in Seychelles. We must continue to work to develop this industry among young people because we are doing very well in terms of music and art! Cinematography is another aspect that we want to develop knowing that it is an industry that is worth several trillions of dollars. And if the African countries and other countries less fortunate than us have reached it, I believe that we are also capable and we can reach it”, shared M. d’Offay.

The latter expressed the pride of the Seychelles Creative Agency for having the chance to benefit from the free service of Dr. Mauro every time he comes to the Seychelles.

He assured Dr. Mauro that the Seychelles Creative Agency will continue to closely follow the participants of this training and will also remain in contact with him for this continued direction.

M. d’Offay said that a fourth training workshop will be held next year where he hopes to train trainers to continue the work. Through the Film Unit of the Seychelles Creative Agency, he hopes to push for him to assume responsibility for the development of cinematography in the Seychelles.

He warmly thanked the SBC (Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation) who was one of their partners in the realization of this training.

For this part, Mme Miera Savy, executive director for international cooperation at the Seychelles National Institute for Culture, Heritage and the Arts, said that during his stay Dr. Mauro also held a master class for archivists in the matter of preserving audiovisual media, and the valorizations leading to the publication of manuscripts by former writers.

“Our goal and wish is to have in the future more diversity in terms of literary works in Créole”, said Mme Savy.

The Dr. Mauro left the Seychelles last Sunday.
