Africa-Press – Seychelles. Living on an island makes swimming crucial life skill, while it is also important for children to learn how to swim in order to reduce the number of water-related accidents.

In line with that, a group of over 125 kids from primary schools in the northern part of the island received certificates after successfully completing three different levels in the Learn to Swim programme which was conducted recently at the Beau Vallon.

The two-week programme is a joint collaboration between the community, leisure and sports for all unit within the National Sports Council (NSC) and the Ministry of Education.

The kids from the Anse Etoile, Beau Vallon, Glacis, La Retraite, Bel Ombre and Perseverance primary schools have been certified for achieving level one (Crab) , level two (Turtle) and level three (Fish).

A total of six certified instructors were involved with the programme, and the new swimmers received their certificates from director of the community, leisure and sports for all unit Francis Remie yesterday.
