Africa-Press – Seychelles. The National Arts and Crafts Council (NACC) held a forum yesterday for chairpersons of associations that fall under its scope.

The aim of the forum, held at the National Theatre, Mont Fleuri, was to discuss the challenges these associations are facing and their roles.

Present for the forum was the secretary general of the Institute for Culture, Heritage and the Arts, David Andre; the chief executive of the NACC, Jimmy Savy; the director of FIU (Financial Intelligence Unit), Richard Rampal.

Mr Andre said the meeting is usually held with the chairpersons of the associations regularly but due to the pandemic the relevant parties had not met for quite some time.

He added that this first meeting that the NACC is hosting since his appointment as the secretary general for the Institute for Culture, Heritage and the Arts is to engage with the chairpersons and give them an overview of the institution’s plans.

He noted that it is also to reassure them that their roles towards the institution are to ensure that the Seychelles arts and culture flourishes.

He acknowledged that the institution is stronger as it has more power than a ministry in the sense that it has more control and ensures continuity of the development of the arts and culture.

Mr Savy stated that there were approximately twelve associations previously associated with the NACC. He noted that the forum is usually for the chairpersons and the representatives however this year they have also welcomed groups concerned with the artisanal sector.

The CEO added that this is their first forum however they have been in contact with the relevant associations through virtual meetings.

“During the forum we discussed the institution’s functions, mandate and vision,” he said.

The FIU also gave a presentation on the associations, detailing the Beneficial Ownership Act (BOA) which calls for a level of transparency among the associations.

The participants also discussed the concept of Beneficial Ownership and the Seychelles Beneficial Ownership database.
