Africa-Press – Seychelles. Diversity in Intelligence Association (DIA) has thanked its partners for their support to the youth organisation during its two-year existence.

This was through a special activity held at the National Theatre at the Ministry of Education headquarters early last month.

DIA was launched on June 25, 2021 at the Civil Engagement Platform Seychelles (Ceps) auditorium with the aim of raising awareness of the different forms of intelligence, especially among the youths, through educating, empowering and mentoring.

Among the invitees at the special event were the chief executive of Ceps, Alvin Laurence, and the chief executive of the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC), Albert Ducan.

Apart from presenting certificates of recognition to partners and youths who took part in advocacy campaigns through online articles and videos for the organisaion, the special activity was also marked by entertainment through songs and dances by various youths and an interview session with a past participant on the DIA programme.

She gave her perspective on agriculture in the country following a six-month agricultural internship, along with a group of other youths in the organisation, on farms around the country, including at the Seychelles Institute of Agriculture and Horticulture (SIAH).

During the ceremony there were words of thanks, praises and encouragement from the chairperson, Judelca Bonne, who is studying in Malaysia, which was read on her behalf.

She added that DIA hopes that our society becomes more proactive than reactive.

She called on youths with ideas to come forward and join the organisation on projects raising awareness on different forms of intelligence.

In his remarks for the occasion, Mr Laurence thanked and saluted the youths for their innovative approach in their projects among which one emphasised on the need to diversify the education leading to inclusivity in the system.

He also encouraged them to submit other projects that will emphasise on another form of intelligence, given the successful projects carried out on education and agriculture intelligence.

Speaking to Seychelles NATION, the secretary of DIA, Pamela Mathurin, said that they, the pool of young people, believe in the aspirations of all youths in the country and that their talents, gifts and forms of intelligence are equally important.

“It was for this reason that this body was set up to promote awareness and appreciation of values of each and every youth. We also reach out to the more mature individuals who have experienced similar journeys,” Ms Mathurin said.

She noted that the youths of DIA are ready to make a difference and to create their own empowerment to make things better for all youth in general. Through key partners such as Ceps and SNYC, they are ready to liaise with them to bring positive influences or changes for the betterment of their fellow youths.

Apart from conducting the agricultural internship programme, DIA has also successfully organised educational hikes and eco-friendly practices such as beach and forest clean-ups for young students.

“DIA wishes to thank Ceps, SNYC and other esteemed partners who supported us on our journey to express and create positive and dynamic changes to images towards the youths. It has been a journey of resilience especially through major personal investments and smiles and greetings from the lives we touched,” Ms Mathurin added.
