Africa-Press – Seychelles. Knowing how to live in a community, becoming responsible citizens, embracing our natural surroundings, being thankful and even caring for others are among the few basics of life that we must teach our children.

When we teach them to care, we are instilling good values which in turn helps to mold a good society in the future. Giving our children the skills and knowledge needed to develop greater empathy-related awareness can surely help prevent negative social behaviours such as bullying, meanness and alienation.

Empathy is a fundamental social emotion because it brings a sense of emotional connection to others. It is this awareness that is not only basic to all healthy relationships; it is the root of pro-social behaviour, altruism, kindness, and peace.

This year, Perseverance North primary school decided to make a difference in the lives of the little patients on paediatric ward at the Seychelles Hospital, by embracing one of the school’s core values – empathy.

After so much brainstorming and engagements, students expressed a heartfelt desire to give back to the community by showing care and solidarity towards other children who are sick.
