Africa-Press – Seychelles. During the European Union – Africa Business Summit held in Brussels, Belgium this month, experts from Europe and Africa came together to discuss the advancement of sustainable blue economies in Africa.
The summit was moderated by Miss Fatime Kanté (after an invitation received by the European Union) from the Seychelles Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy and the panel was organized by the European Commission, the Directorate General for Maritime Affairs and some fishing.
The EU-Africa Business Summit (EBS) gives voice to businesses and institutions in Europe and Africa, developing synergies and facilitating cross-sector dialogue to usher in a new era of collaboration. It will be an opportunity to address the most important political challenges and identify innovative solutions for a shared vision within the framework of the privileged partnership that links the two continents.
Panelists included: Prof. Afeikhena Jérôme ‒ Special Advisor to the Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Development since the African Union Commission (who had to replace at the last moment H.E. Josefa Sacko, African Union Commissioner for Economy rural and agriculture); DG Charlina Vitcheva, Director General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries at the European Commission; Johannes Bochdalofsky, co-founder and project manager at Sea4H in South Africa; David Weiss, representing KFW Deutsche Investitions- undEntwicklungsgesellschaftmbH; and Flavien Kouatcha, general manager of Save our Agriculture in Cameroon.
The summit focused on the development of sustainable blue economies in Africa, essential to the economic growth and environmental sustainability of the continent. Panelists discussed challenges and opportunities in the blue economic sector, including the need for increased investment, infrastructure and technology.
Teacher. Afeikhena Jérôme highlighted the importance of sustainable fishing practice and the need to protect marine biodiversity, while DG Charlina Vitcheva highlighted the role of the European Union in supporting the development of the Blue Zone economic sector in Africa.
Johannes Bochdalofsky, Co-Founder and Project Manager at Sea4H, shared the company’s innovative approach to sustainable energy and the potential it holds for the blue economy sector in Africa.
David Weiss, representing KFW Deutsche Investitions- undEntwicklungsgesellschaftmbH, highlighted the role of development finance in supporting sustainable blue economic projects, while Flavien Kouatcha, managing director of Save our Agriculture, shared the organization’s efforts to promote sustainable practices sustainable aquaponics in Cameroon.
The EU-Africa Business Summit concluded with a call for increased collaboration and investment in the blue economy sector in Africa, to ensure a sustainable economy, growth and environmental preservation and a commitment from the government .
Kenya will host the next Blue Invest Africa in 2024.
