Africa-Press – Seychelles. Over a month after being relieved of his duty as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ron Bonnelame broke his silence yesterday and announced that he had started legal proceedings against what he termed as his “illegal termination”.
In a press release, which Mr Bonnelame delivered to Seychelles NATION yesterday afternoon, he stated that he had refrained from making any statement in relation to his termination “out of respect for the Police Force and the office I was occupying since I was still a member of the Police Force until January 5, 2023, as per my letter of termination”.
In the press release, Mr Bonnelame stated that “on December 5, 2022, at around 9am, I was called to the office of Mr Ted Barbe, the Commissioner of Police, whereby I was handed a letter by the Commissioner of Police, by virtue of which I was informed and notified of the termination of my appointment as the Deputy Commissioner of Police, effective from January 5, 2023”.
The press release further added that although the termination was to take effect from January 5, 2023, he was informed in the said letter that he was relieved of all his duties as the Deputy Commissioner of Police with immediate effect from December 5, 2022.
“Since the date of my appointment until December 5, 2022, I have discharged my duties as Deputy Commissioner of Police in a professional, honourable and dignified manner. I firmly believe that the termination of my appointment as a Deputy Commissioner of Police was not in accordance with the law and certainly was not due to the restructuring of the Police Force,” stated Mr Bonnelame in the press release, further adding that “I have instructed my Attorney-At-Law to commence legal proceedings in respect of the illegal termination of my employment”.
Mr Bonnelame was appointed as Deputy Police Commissioner on August 31, 2021, and the Seychelles Police Force issued a press release on December 5, announcing his termination in line with its ongoing reforms within the force among which is to have one Deputy Commissioner of Police.
Since then, the other deputy commissioner, Francis Songoire, has been serving as the only Deputy Commissioner of Police.
