Africa-Press – Seychelles. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Mr. Sylvestre Radegonde, returned to Mahé this Sunday, after a regional tour that ended with an official visit to Reunion.
The Minister, who began his tour with a working visit to Madagascar where he represented the Seychelles at the work of the 37th Ordinary Session of the Council of Ministers of the Indian Ocean Commission, went to Reunion at the invitation of Mrs. Huguette Bello, President of the Regional Council of this French Overseas Department (DOM) and European Outermost Region (RUP).
Minister Radegonde said he was very satisfied with his tour which lasted five days and described his visit to Reunion as “very fruitful”. A very busy program saw the Minister and his delegation criss-cross half of the island to meet political figures, participate in meetings with economic operators and social actors, and make field visits.
He had meetings with Ms. Bello and her team at the Hôtel de la Région, headquarters of the Regional Council, and with Mr. Cyrille Melchior, President of the Departmental Council, at the Palais de la Source. He also met the Prefect Jérôme Filippini, at the prefecture.
The exchanges with Ms. Bello and Mr. Melchior were respectively followed by a Round Table with cultural actors and economic operators.
Ms. Bello and the Seychellois Minister explored avenues for cooperation in the cultural and economic fields, and in particular within the framework of the regional cooperation programme, Interreg, for which the Regional Council is the managing authority.
With Mr. Melchior, the Minister discussed the possibilities of exchanges between the social and cultural actors of the two islands. While with the Prefect Filippini, the exchanges focused mainly on maritime security.
Minister Radegonde also visited the premises of the Regional University of Craft Trades (URMA) in St Denis. He also made a guided visit to the Botanical Conservatory of Mascarin in St Leu, visited a rural cottage in Le Tampon as well as guest rooms in Plaine des Cafres.
Minister Radegonde’s delegation during this official visit to Reunion included Mr. Ralph Agrippine, Senior Advisor at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Paul Lebon, Director General at the Department of Tourism, and Jean-Claude Pech, Honorary Consul of Seychelles in The meeting.
