Africa-Press – Seychelles. Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Seychelles, Annett Günther, paid a courtesy call on National Assembly Speaker Roger Mancienne yesterday morning.
Speaker Mancienne was accompanied by Deputy Speaker Gervais Henrie.
Ambassador Günther personally conveyed her congratulations to the speaker on his appointment, explaining that due to the Covid-19 pandemic she had been unable to visit Seychelles.
She extended her appreciation to the seventh Assembly for their election and in ensuring the smooth transition of power.
During the meeting, the ambassador highlighted the long-standing good relationship between Germany and Seychelles and expressed her endeavour for this to continue, outlining the support in sectors such as culture, finance, and science. Ambassador Günther described the relation between the two countries as a “solid foundation that both can build on”, stating that continued discussions will aim at identifying new ties and relations between the two countries.
The ambassador also expressed her wish to have further intensified discussions with the National Assembly on matters that the two countries share similar interests in such as climate change and environmental issues.
Speaker Mancienne thanked Ambassador Günther for her recognitions and highlighted that the National Assembly works in line with its motto and vision of ‘Serving a Modern Democracy’.
Mr Mancienne also reaffirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to keeping the strong ties between Germany and Seychelles.
The ambassador also made a courtesy call on the leader of the opposition Sebastien Pillay.
