Africa-Press – Seychelles. The Oncology Unit of the Seychelles Hospital has received a donation of medical equipment from GranKaz in commemoration of World Cancer Day.
The handover of the donation took place on Friday afternoon at the Seychelles Hospital.
The donation includes trolleys for serving patients’ food, four commode-chairs for dependent patients, a printer/scanner and toners to be use for chemotherapy prescriptions, combination of shelves and desk, a sofa set, as well as plastic slippers for patients’ use in the chemotherapy unit.
Some specific PRC testing kits for leukemia patients are to come at a later date. The value of the donation amounts to approximately R28,500.
It was the hospital that requested for the equipment.
The donation was handed over by the public relations and communications manager at GranKaz, Shama Amesbury, to the deputy chief executive of the Health Care Agency, Kathleen Cecil, in the presence of the director of the Seychelles Hospital, Dr Kenneth Henriette, and staff of the Oncology Unit.
Ms Amesbury said that GranKaz had wanted to continue to assist the hospital, specifically in units essential to the survival of many patients, and are struggling at the moment due to the strain placed by Covid-19 on the financial and other resources.
She said it is hoped that the equipment will help make the work at the unit move along more smoothly and more efficiently to help as many people as possible.
She thanked hospital staff for their dedication and passion they bring towards assisting cancer patients, including all the lives that they have saved.
On behalf of the ministry and the Oncology Unit, Mrs Cecile thanked GranKaz for its generous donation that will add to the smoothness and efficient running of the unit and to the comfort of the patients who come for their day care.
She said that the ministry has its shortages to meet some requirements and because of that they welcome and appreciate when their partners reach out and support them in any way they can.
