Africa-Press – Seychelles. H Savy Insurance (HSI) has donated a total of 2500 life insurance vouchers for children in registered child care services.

The donation was presented to Shirley Choppy, the chief executive of the Institute of Early Childhood Development (IECD), by Michelle Lafortune, manager of Life Department at HSI.

Sonia Mancienne, the vice-chairperson of the IECD board was also in attendance to witness this exchange.

The ceremony took place on Saturday, August 5 at the Seychelles Institute for Teacher Education (SITE) at Mont Fleuri.

The event coincided with the general meeting for the registered childminders of the home-based child care services.

The initiative, in partnership with IECD, the parent institution for all child care services in the country, is a landmark contribution from the insurance company as it will touch the lives of 2500 children aged 0-4 years.

Child care managers running the services will also benefit from the initiative.

As a sign of appreciation, the vice-chairperson of the board presented HSI with a Certificate of Recognition.

In her remarks at the event, the IECD CEO hailed HSI for such a contribution, noting that the participation of non-government stakeholders in the likes of HSI is key to strengthening the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) systems, further promote the importance of early childhood education as well as a culture of savings at a very early age.

“IECD is committed in its efforts to mobilise partners not only at a national level, but also at an international level, to ensure that we meet our commitments and that we use such partnerships to synergise actions. Parents and childcare personnel need to also form part of the equation; we are proud today that H Savy Insurance is working with us,” Mrs Choppy said in an interview following the event.

Ms Lafortune also seized the opportunity to give a detailed presentation on the various life insurance plans, such as the Junior life as well as other available products that HSI offers such as mortgage protection and credit life.

A few weeks ago, 42 prospective childminders received the voucher following the completion of their training. The extension of this great initiative to directly benefit children showcases the commitment towards the ECCE agenda from HSI.
