Health minister’s message on World Health Day 2022 ‘Take care of each other’

Africa-Press – Seychelles. “As we celebrate World Health Day 2022, we are very much aware that we have spent the last two years working hard to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic and to ensure that we save lives of our fellow citizens. We all wish that we could have begun to imagine and dream of life without Covid-19. Unfortunately, this is right now an impossibility as we see ourselves having to respond to yet another peak in numbers of Covid-19 cases.

“For us health workers who are celebrating not just World Health Day but also Health Workers Day on April 7, we know that beneath the monumental weight of Covid-19 there are greater and lesser challenges that we must continue to grapple with.

“Promoting health, managing lifestyles and juggling the sophistication of ‘re-soldering’ the bruised body and mind, fall squarely on us. Certainly, we have many partners who stand with us and whose support continue to inspire and motivate us. Together with them, and united in the vision of health for all, we must continue to fight the difficult fight, advocating for the big things and the small things, for the patient and for the work that we do.

“Ours is not a job. Nor is it even a profession, truly speaking. It is a calling. Covid-19 has truly revealed the force and the spirit of that calling in the majority of us. When push came to shove, most of the time, we stood firm and as tall as can be.

“So today, I hail all health workers and would like to mention those who are not always seen – the secretaries, the health information assistants, the human resource, stores and accounts personnel and all the many other unsung heroes in the public, private and voluntary sectors, who keep the machinery of the nation’s health well-oiled and ready. We would not have come out, barely scathed, from the trials and tribulations of Covid-19 without you.

“The Covid-19 pandemic, whether it ends in 2022 or lingers into the next year or years, has taught us many useful lessons. We stand together, united as a health family and with the nation, whether we are dealing with infections, non-communicable diseases or mental health. We draw on all our resources and give the best of ourselves to face common challenges. Today more than ever before, the words ‘service before self’ take on added meaning. Let us continue to improve our health system through a steadfast search for the ‘best of the best’ in the human spirit and for the ‘best of the best’ as our human hands extend to offer help to another human being.

“Let us live the theme chosen for this day: ‘Take care of each other’.

“Bonn fet a tous.”
