Africa-Press – Seychelles. Four Israeli experts in various fields in the agriculture sector are in the country to assist the Islands Development Company (IDC) in setting up large-scale farming on Coetivy.
Yesterday, the specialists – comprising an agronomist; water, irrigation and agricultural development expert; hydrologist and underground water expert and a water and soil expert – visited the state facilities which provide support to local farmers. These are the soil laboratory, agriculture bulk store and the plant and animal diagnostic centre at Grand Anse Mahé and the Anse Boileau Research Centre.
They also visited two farms at Anse Royale before meeting the Minister for Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment, Flavien Joubert.
The Israelis were accompanied on the visits by IDC’s deputy chief executive, Christian Lionnet and Justin Moustache, IDC’s agricultural project manager.
The experts went to Desroches yesterday, where IDC has set up a trial farm to see which types of plants and technology better adapt to the outer islands’ environment. From there they will go to Coetivy, to gather data which will allow IDC to optimise production once large-scale agricultural production starts.
