'I'm back': Jamie Foxx to open up about secret health battle in upcoming Netflix comedy special

Africa-Press – Seychelles. Actor Jamie Foxx will open up about the health problems he experienced in 2023 in his upcoming Netflix special.

The comedy show What Had Happened Was…, will be released on 10 December.

Foxx was hospitalised in Atlanta for a medical complication in April 2023, and he has not yet shared the cause of the incident.

“I said, ‘If I can stay funny, I could stay alive’… I’m back,” Foxx said in a teaser for his special.

In anticipation of his special, the actor also posted a message on his Instagram on Sunday.

“Cannot say it enough that I am blessed to be able to tell my story in my own way so many people to thank so many people have prayed [sic],” Foxx said.

“A big shout out to Atlanta; you showed up and showed out, made me feel at home, made me feel safe after 18 years of not being on stage, you made it feel like it was just yesterday,” he continued.

“Can’t wait for everyone to experience the vibe that we had. It was like going to church… We laughed… we had a few tears… last but not least, we celebrated life… And second chances… cannot wait, make sure you check it December 10th.”

The actor had also told Gayle King from CBS Mornings, “It was an excruciating time to be able to open those wounds every single day for three nights.”

“It was excruciating because the worry is what gets you,” Foxx continued. “We’ve got a great show in the room, but we don’t know what they may laugh at or what they may not laugh at.”

In 2023, Foxx made a surprise appearance at the Critics’ Choice Association’s Celebration of Cinema and Television in Los Angeles.

This was his first public appearance in Hollywood since the medical emergency.

He told the audience at the ceremony that he had “been through some things”.

“It’s crazy. I couldn’t do that six months ago; I couldn’t actually walk,” he told the audience.

“I wouldn’t wish what I went through on my worst enemy because it’s tough when you almost… when it’s almost over when you see the tunnel,” Foxx added.

He continued:

“I saw the tunnel; I didn’t see the light! It was hot in that tunnel, too. I don’t know what was going on… ‘Shit, am I going to the right place?’ I see the devil going, ‘C’mon!'”
