Africa-Press – Seychelles. In commemoration of the International Men’s Day, the Seychelles Trading Company (STC) and the Ministry of Youth, Sports and the Family yesterday morning organised a parenting session for fathers and would-be fathers who are working at the company.
The half-day interactive session on ‘the importance of fathers’ took place at Club 55, the company’s social club situated at its headquarter’s premises on Latanier Road.
The session was facilitated by training and research manager Fatma Bibi from the National Council for Children (NCC).
The 30 male participants present were able to enhance their knowledge and skills and also share experiences on how to be better fathers so that they can improve their relationship with their children and their families. They reflected on their role as fathers, as role models to their children and on respect to their children’s mother among other topics.
After the session, Richard Hallock, manager Duty Free bonded warehouse, said: “The session was indeed very fruitful. We hope that there will be more sessions of this kind. It’s good to highlight the importance of fathers, even those in broken families which is one of the major reasons why fathers cannot play an active role in the lives of their children.”
As for STC security manager, Raymond Simeon, he said “The initiative is very good. It was a platform whereby men could share their experiences, constraints as well as their strengths as the head of the household and as the role model for their children. Fathers are noble in their roles and that is why the contributions they bring to their families are to be valued.”
Mrs Bibi said that it was important for the fathers to reflect on their importance in their families and society, it was also important to get their views on issues they feel or they are going through that are contributing to the downfall of families the repercussion of which is felt in the society.
