Africa-Press – Seychelles. “We need to give our young people hope. We need to expand and provide opportunities for young people to engage in.”

This comes in a message from the chief executive of the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC), Penny Belmont, on the occasion of the International Youth Day being celebrated today.

The full text of Ms Belmont’s message reads:

“As we celebrate the International Youth Day, let’s reflect and admit that in a society we all need each other. We need people of all ages, young and old alike, to work together to build a better world.

“This year’s theme – ‘Intergenerational Solidarity: Creating a world of all ages’ – reminds us to be grateful and appreciate the contribution of the older generations in moulding the new.

“When we look at all the challenges that we are facing we realise that we need each other to collaborate, to share, to learn from each other and to be heard.

“The older generations have a lot to offer, they were once young, they have been through different chapters in life as well. Let’s give them the opportunities to give back to their communities and share the decades of lived experience they have accumulated.

“The young people need the guidance and support for the older generation to become better leaders, entrepreneurs, parents or better citizens.

“The Seychelles National Youth Council’s (SNYC) chosen theme for this year is ‘Imagine the Possibilities’. Reason for this theme is that we need to give the young people hope. We need to expand and provide opportunities for young people to engage in.

“Our message to the young people is to Dream. Dream big. Tell them that it is ok to dream, as long as they stay focus and achieve.

“Let’s all join together to give support to the youths of Seychelles and let them know that they are important and we have their back.

“To the older generation we appreciate your advice and you have our support.

“Together let’s hold hands in solidarity.”
