Africa-Press – Seychelles. Judokas Alvin Marie and Cheryl Larue both lost their bouts by ippon to leave the competition, while long-distance runner Ivan Moïse took fifth place in the 5,000 meter race yesterday.

The competition is therefore over for the Seychellois athletes at the 9th Games of La Francophonie, in Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. They will leave the Games empty-handed.

In judo, Alvin Marie, who evolves in the category of +100 kilos, qualified directly for the quarter-finals where he faced the Frenchman Khamat Saparbaev. Mary lost by ippon. In the repechage, Marie shared the mat with Enock Nguya Kashama from the host country, and for the second time the Seychellois judoka lost by ippon to leave the competition.

For her part, Cheryl Marie, who plays in the -78 kg category for women, faced Shekinah Ngolu Boyoto of the DRC in the round of 16. She lost by ippon before losing to Arielle Nelly Sawadogo of Burkina Faso in the repechage match.

It should be noted that Team Seychelles has withdrawn its participation in the team event, scheduled for today, due to injury.In athletics, middle distance athlete Ivan Moïse competed in the final 5,000 meter race last night at the Stade des Martyrs, finishing in fifth place with a time of 14 minutes and 39.16 seconds.

It was the Djiboutian Mohamed Ismaïl Ibrahim who allowed his country to win a resounding victory with a time of 13 minutes and 22.44 seconds. This is Mohamed’s second gold medal in two days.

Moroccan Hicham Akankam finished second (13 minutes and 29.86 seconds) while Burundian Hafashimana Emile took third place (13 minutes and 31.11 seconds).
