Julian Pool’s 12th place was the Seychellois’ best performance in the road race, a 90-kilometre circuit, largely dominated by Moroccan cyclists, in both men’s and women’s categories.

With a time of 2 hours, 11 minutes and 49 seconds (2h11’49), Pool was the best cyclist in the Seychelles, ahead of Jayden Sinon who finished 17th overall (2h11’49), sharing the same time with Mario Ernesta (22nd ) and Stephen Belle (23rd) yesterday as part of the IX Games of La Francophonie, in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.

It was Moroccan Achraf Ed-Doghmy who won the race in 2 hours, 04 minutes and 26 seconds (2h04’26), ahead of his compatriot Nasr-Eddine Maatougui who finished second in 2 hours, 05 minutes and 06 seconds.

Catalin Buta of Romania finished third overall in 2 hours, 05 minutes and 38 seconds.

The circuit race covered a distance of 90 kilometres, i.e. ten laps of 9 kilometres, bringing together 60 cyclists.On the women’s side, the Moroccan trio comprising Salma Harriri, Chaimae Ez-Zakraouy and Wissal Baoubbou respectively won the first three places in their race covered on a closed circuit of 65 kilometers.

It should be noted that road cycling is included for the first time in the official program of the Games of La Francophonie during the seventh edition of the Games which took place in Nice in France in 2013, on the proposal of the authorities of the city of Nice and with the approval of the International Committee of the Games of La Francophonie, under the “animated” events.

The International Committee of the Games of La Francophonie (CIJF) is collaborating with the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) for the organization of this new road cycling event which will be placed under the technical responsibility of a technical delegate appointed by the UCI. .

Only States and governments that are members or observers of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) are authorized to enter competitors in the cycling demonstration, according to the Modalities defined by the CIJF and the regulations of the UCI and the Congolese Federation. of Cycling (FECOCY).Also noted that the race is restricted to elite men and women between the ages of 19 and 25.
