Africa-Press – Seychelles. To celebrate National Children’s Day, the blue economy department invited some children from three schools for a special activity within the ministry at Maison Collet.

Three entrepreneurs from the circular economy sector were invited to show students how to make art objects and jewelery by recycling discarded materials.

The Minister of Fisheries and the Blue Economy, Jean-François Ferrari wanted to encourage young people to join this sector.

“I am very happy to see children and young people meet me at the ministry. Today we are going to learn about some trades that can allow us to earn a living. We have a duty to protect our ocean at all times and we must become innovative in the way we operate. I also salute the animators who supervise the young people and who educate them on the preservation of the environment”, shared Minister Ferrari.

Ms. Gabriella Gonthier, Senior Monitoring and Evaluation Officer in the Blue Economy Department pointed out that this activity is to encourage the interest and participation of children in this specific sector.

“We organized a workshop so that children could learn how to make jewelry with recycled materials, recycle with bottles and also play,” said Ms. Gonthier.

The students come from the schools of Bel Eau, La Rosière and Mont Fleuri. The blue economy department will continue to do activities with the youth department.
