Africa-Press – Seychelles. I am writing to express my deep concern over the recent unfair treatment of Air Seychelles employees, who were promised a salary increase following the company’s attainment of profitability.

This issue highlights a significant breach of trust between the company’s management and its hardworking staff.

Our national airline, Air Seychelles recently announced in July 2023 of a profit made to the value of 8.4 million USD for the year 2022 after reporting a loss for the years 2021 and 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic which affected business.

To date, the company still has not announced whether or not the employees who suffered from over 50% salary cut, if they will be expecting a salary increase as per what was promised to them.

It is disheartening to witness the disappointment and frustration of the Air Seychelles employees who had anticipated a well-deserved salary increment upon the company’s achievement of profitability. This promise was not only a morale booster but also a commitment that recognised their dedication and contributions towards the company’s success.

Unfortunately, the failure to fulfill this promise sends a message that undermines the efforts of the employees and raises questions about the company’s integrity and respect for its workforce. Employees are the backbone of any organisation, and their commitment should be met with fair and transparent compensation practices.

I believe the management of Air Seychelles should address this matter promptly and transparently. Open communication regarding the reasons for the delay or the change in plans would go a long way in rebuilding the trust that has been eroded. In addition, it is essential that the company takes steps to ensure such situations are avoided in the future by setting realistic expectations and maintaining transparent communication channels with its employees.

Ultimately, a harmonious relationship between a company and its employees is pivotal to its success. It is my hope that Air Seychelles takes the necessary measures to rectify this situation and upholds its commitment to treating its employees fairly and with respect.

It is also important to note that Air Seychelles has already lost a number of employees (especially domestic and international pilots) these past two years and also has a number of employees who have already announced their plans for employment overseas which reflects on the number of staff members who has lost trust in the management.
