Africa-Press – Seychelles. The Seychelles Fishing Authority (SFA) has seized a substantial amount of lobsters from a commercial establishment on La Digue.

After receiving reports of fresh lobster being advertised at a restaurant on La Digue, an inspection was carried out by members of the SFA enforcement team. It was then confirmed that the restaurant had lobster in their storage and was offering lobster as one of their menu items.

Further to inquires made by the enforcement officers, the establishment could not produce the proof of purchase from a licensed lobster fisher for the lobsters in their possession.

Furthermore, the reported supplier could not be identified from the registry of licensed lobster fishers.

As the establishment could not produce the necessary evidence to confirm the transaction of purchase and their origin, the officers seized the lobsters in accordance with the Fisheries Act 2014 and Fisheries Regulations 1987.

The latest lobster fishing season was from December 17, 2021 to February 16, 2022.

The case was registered at La Digue police station.
