Africa-Press – Seychelles. ‘United Seychelles applauds efforts of our healthcare workers across cadres’

“The United Seychelles party joins the concert of wishes to recognise and celebrate the contributions of all health care workers in Seychelles. The World Health Workers Week observed from April 4-8 each year is the chance to elevate the voices, roles and needs of health workers around the world. This year’s theme is ‘Build the Health Workforce Back Better’.

“For several years now, Seychelles has commemorated the Health Workers Day alongside the World Health Day celebrations on April 7. This year’s local theme is ‘Take care of each other’.

“Seychelles has made notable progress towards improving and protecting universal health coverage in the recent years. The United Seychelles party calls on the government to consolidate on these past efforts and to invest more for a stronger health system which requires a robust health workforce, educated and empowered to provide the health services that meet the population’s health needs. Achieving universal health coverage means that everyone can access the health services they need, where and when they need them, without financial hardship. A critical lesson from the Covid-19 pandemic is that we must invest in strengthening the health workforce, both for emergency response and for keeping health services fully functioning.

“The United Seychelles party applauds the efforts of our healthcare workers across cadres and expresses its gratitude for their hard work and dedication to their noble vocation. We also recognise that health workers often put themselves and their families at great risks as they work to save lives especially through the ongoing pandemic. The Covid-19 pandemic has taken a mental and physical toll on those who see the worst side of this virus every day and yet remains on the frontline.

“As a medical doctor by profession, I fully understand the sacrifices made every day by health workers and calls on the government to play a greater role in ensuring a decent and safe working environment for all health workers.

“The United Seychelles party acknowledges the selfless acts of health workers and urges them to take greater care of each other.

“We wish them a Happy Health Workers Day 2022!”
