Africa-Press – Seychelles. ‘LDS remains committed to ensuring that all hardworking Seychellois continue to progress’

“On the occasion of World Labour Day 2022, Linyon Demokratik Seselwa (LDS) wishes to thank all hardworking Seychellois men and women for their personal contributions to the country’s development.

“When we work ethically and diligently for our personal development and for the wellbeing of our families, Seychelles is able to overcome its economic challenges and we all share in the benefits that this can bring. We have seen this during the last twelve months as the country made a steady recovery from the negative impact of Covid-19.

“The personal efforts and devotion of everyone are what have contributed to Seychelles being the number one country on the African continent in terms of gross domestic products (GDP) growth in the period of recovery. However, we must be mindful that the world economy remains fragile, especially with the war between Ukraine and Russia.

“LDS recognises that our labour force remains the driving force in our quest to succeed as a developing nation.

“As we again face new challenges in our economic situation, we are called to renew our determination and effort, together with the contribution of our expatriate labour force, to safeguard the extraordinary progress we have made together.

“LDS recognises and commends the initiatives taken by the government to allow Seychellois workers to get past the most serious economic crisis in Seychelles history.

“To continue this progress, LDS will support the government’s actions which are aimed at workers continuing to receive a fair wage, ensuring safety, dignity and justice at the workplace, and the right to organise to achieve better conditions and benefits so that each one gets a fair share in the gains from economic development.

“LDS will always recognise the right of workers to make their voices heard as long as this is through lawful organisation and with respect for the rights of others and the well-being of our society.

“This is also a time to call on everyone to be fully engaged in legally registered economic activity which provides for themselves and their families but also contributes a fair share to national well-being through personal income tax and pension scheme obligations.

“LDS remains committed to ensuring that all hardworking Seychellois men and women continue to progress, retire in dignity and ensure an even better future for their children.

“We wish all workers in Seychelles a happy celebration, in safety and security, of this day in their honour.”
