Africa-Press – Seychelles. The Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) expresses its deep emotion and conveys its fraternal thoughts to the people and government of the Republic of Seychelles seriously affected by the explosion in Providence and the heavy rains which caused human and material damage.
We are saddened by the loss of life and the number of injuries.
As current President of the IOC, I reiterate my deep sympathy and sincere condolences to the Government and people of Seychelles.
We pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. The COI remains at the disposal of the Seychelles authorities to mobilize, according to its possibilities, resources and partners in support of operations undertaken by national services.
I am convinced that the Seychellois people will overcome these challenges. These tragic events are a reminder of how vulnerable our islands are in the face of climate change and the importance that we must collectively attach to the reduction and management of disaster risks.
The Indian Ocean Commission community joins me in expressing our solidarity with the people of Seychelles in this emergency.
