Africa-Press – Seychelles. “Once again this year, November 19 allows us to join the rest of the world to celebrate and recognize the value, presence and contribution that men make and bring to our families, communities and society in general.
“This year, the international theme puts importance on suicide among boys and men through the theme ‘Zero Male Suicide’ – Zero suicide among boys and men. Our ministry sees it as very important to raise awareness and talk about the mental health of boys and men.
“Here in Seychelles, the suicide situation is increasing where last year 11 cases were recorded compared to 5 cases in 2021. There is a need for national collaboration to put more emphasis on the mental health of men in the country. It is important to offer more services to support those in need and also have prevention programs to promote good mental health among boys and men.
“In line with the motto ‘My Family My Heart’ we recognize that men have a great role to play in the development of their families and in the prosperity of our country. So we all have this responsibility to give more support to our men especially when we see that they are vulnerable and need help for their mental health.
“Our ministry also recognizes that men cannot exist in isolation. So we want to once again emphasize the importance for men and women in relationships, to create space for friends, for them to make efforts to understand each other better and to live better together. Be there for friends, support friends and also ask for help for friends.
“Today is also a day for us to express our gratitude and celebrate the achievements of men and boys in our country, thank them for the many sacrifices they make for the well-being of not only their families, but their communities, society and country. Too often, we focus on the problem and everything that is negative in the life of men or our boys. Yes, there can be challenges but also a lot of fulfillment and positivity in the contribution that men bring and in the role that they play.
“Today, during this day, let us be inspired by exemplary men and boys in our society. We applaud them and we ask them to remain as good examples and models for our young people.
“Our Ministry of Youth, Sport and Family in collaboration with its partners remains always engaged and provides all the necessary support for the welfare and well-being of men and boys in Seychelles.”
