Africa-Press – Seychelles. ‘Let’s appreciate our Seychellois men and give them more visibility’

“As Seychelles once again joins the global society to commemorate the International Men’s Day, celebrated annually on November 19, it presents us this year with the opportunity to recognise the invaluable contributions of Seychellois men towards their families, their communities, and our society. Our theme, therefore, is ‘Celebrating Seychellois Men!’.

“This theme calls for all of us to recognise and applaud the men in our country who are playing positive roles and taking responsibility towards their families, and those who are contributing positively to society. In a culture where we showcase and give more visibility to negative behaviour, we often forget to notice and appreciate positive behaviour and actions. In Seychelles, we do have wonderful men who are responsible fathers, good sons, productive professionals, successful entrepreneurs, dedicated friends, and loving partners. Let us take some time today to appreciate them and give them more visibility.

“In May this year, as we celebrated the International Day of the Family, our ministry invited the whole nation to join our national theme ‘Mon Fanmir, Mon Leker’, a call to everyone to find their rightful place in their families: our call today is for men to find and take your place in your families, and also for women to allow the space for men in their families.

“We take this opportunity to call on both Seychellois men and boys to seize opportunities as they come and actively participate in shaping the government’s inclusive agenda. To our male role models, we would like to call on you to be active agents of change and take on the challenge to bring about positive impacts not only in our society but to other men and boys as well. Be at the forefront of advocating for more positive mindsets, positive attitudes, and positive actions, leading to positive behaviour. We need more male role models in this country and more male community leaders. The Ministry of Family, Youth and Sports remains committed and sincere to continuously support any positive initiatives from any men-led organisation, which will result in a better quality of life for all Seychellois.

“We would like to also take time and reiterate the need for men and women to make more space for each other, and have strong and better relationships between men and women.

“To all brave hardworking, and committed Seychellois men, we celebrate you, we applaud you and we are grateful to you. May God give you additional strength, patience, and plenty of wisdom to continue this beautiful journey together with the women in our beautiful country.

“Happy Men’s Day!”
