Africa-Press – Seychelles. Four ministers, representatives of different agencies and concerned stakeholders on Thursday afternoon met to discuss, review and explore ways to strengthen their collaboration to better assist each other when dealing with issues in the communities.
The meeting, which was held at the Pilgrim Security headquarters at Providence, was chaired by the Minister for Internal Affairs Errol Fonseka and it was attended by the Minister for Local Government and Community Affairs Rose-Marie Hoareau, the Minister for Lands and Housing Billy Rangasamy, the Minister for Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment Flavien Joubert. Also present were representatives from different agencies and concerned stakeholders like the Attorney General Frank Ally, Commissioner of Prison Services Raymond St Ange, the Police including Commissioner Ted Barbe as well as the head of visible policing Assistant Superintendent Antoine Denousse, reps of Property Management Company (PMC), Disaster Risk Management Division (DRMD), among others.
Speaking after the meeting Minister Fonseka said it was necessary to bring all ministries and agencies together as law enforcement does not only involve the police and the judiciary but many other ministries, agencies and organisations and every other citizen in the communities.
Minister Fonseka said it is high time for some people in the communities to stop being idle just roaming around doing nothing except getting involved in drugs, consume alcohol, play loud music among all sorts of social ills and anti social behaviour and nuisance that disturb and affect the quality of life and the environment in the different communities.
“The meeting was important to bring all concerned ministries, agencies and other partners and stakeholders together to discuss our working collaboration and see how we can better assist each other to act fast but in a coordinated manner to deal with situations when they arise to bring more order, peace, security and tranquility in our communities,” Minister Fonseka said.
He added it is time that people change their mindset and attitude regarding the way they dispose of their rubbish, how they play their music and they should take ownership of their bad actions and respect others living in the same community.
For his part the Commissioner of Police Ted Barbe noted that the Police is already doing a lot of work in the different communities under the ‘Respe Pour Nou Vwazinaz’ campaign which was launched in 2020 but it is always good to have the support, cooperation and assistance of other concerned agencies to expedite the actions taken for instance.
He said police officers are working together at regional level to boost their effort at dealing with and deterring crime and other illegal activities and nuisance in the communities.
“It is good to have these consultations to know the challenges other stakeholders are facing and to explore ways to better work together to bring our support where necessary to better reinforce and coordinate our effort to tackle these issues,” Commissioner Barbe remarked.
