No change in electricity tariff rate for April-June

Africa-Press – Seychelles. There will be no changes in electricity tariff from April to June, 2022, the Seychelles Energy Commission (Sec) has announced.

The weighted average fuel price charged to the Public Utilities Corporation (PUC) by the Seychelles Petroleum Company (Seypec) over Quarter 1 (Q1) of 2022 (January–March) has decreased, equating to nine (9) cents decrease in the electricity tariff.

“Based on the discussion between the Ministry of Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment (MACCE), Sec and PUC, it has been agreed to maintain tariff at its current level despite the decrease in fuel cost that was observed in the Q1 of 2022,” says a press release from the Sec.

“The main reason for the decision is to minimise impact of the continuing increase in the fuel price being observed on the market which if it continues in the coming quarter, will result in an increase in the electricity tariff,” the press release adds.

It should be noted that an increase in fuel price was observed towards the end of Q1. The Sec will continue to monitor the situation.

The next review of electricity tariff based on fuel price will be announced towards the end of June 2022.
