Africa-Press – Seychelles. The Seychelles Home Care Agency or ‘Seychelles Home Care Agency’ was officially launched yesterday in a small ceremony in the lobby of Unity House, block A, first floor.

This ceremony also saw the opening of the new offices that are located in this block and others in block B of the building.

It was the Minister for Youth, Sport and Family, Marie-Celine Zialor, and the agency’s chief executive, Daniel Kallée, who were honored for cutting the ribbon to officially mark the launch of the agency and the opening of the offices.

This symbolic couple of ribbons was followed by the unveiling of the plaque by Minister Zialor and the third member of the board, Celine Malbrook, and the unveiling of the logo by Mr. Kallée who did it earlier.

The ceremony was held in the presence of the chief executive for the Social Protection Agency, Brenda Morin; the chief executive of the National Council of Lazenes, Albert Duncan; chief executive of the National Council for Children, Yasmin Umarji; some ‘home carers’ and some among those who receive care at home; the old workers, among other guests.

After several years that it was established as a ‘scheme’ in 1987 to provide long-term care services to the elderly, those who are otherwise able, adults as well as children, the Home Care Center was created under the Care Law Domicile in 2022 (Seychelles Home Care Agency Act 2022) which took effect in January 2023.

This means that at one time, the home care administration that was with the Ministry of Health and Social Development at that time, was based in the Social Welfare Agency, which is now known as the Social Protection Agency, until an agency was put in place to administer the program. backyard care

After several years of failure, including bribery, there was a move in 2022 to better administer and provide a more professional and modern home care service and that’s where the ‘Seychelles Home Care Agency Act 2022’ was passed in the National Assembly.

Fodre pointed out that the agency is already doing its work from March 2023 with a new lease and new innovations that will ensure that this service takes another framework. This is to guarantee that those who receive a service from a home care worker will have someone who takes into account their needs, not just physical, but emotional, social and spiritual.

In her address, Mrs. Malbrook said that they are already seeing through this age, a better framework for the ‘home carers’ in their place to receive professionalization that will surely give value to the service they offer.

“At the same time, we want to work hard to reduce any gaps in this service and we count on the commitment of the ‘carers’ to ensure that they take this work but also the new initiatives that are coming seriously,” he said.

Mrs. Malbrook said that they count on the support of all governmental, private and civil society partners to help bring about this desirable transformation in this service.

On his side, Mr. Kallée said that what happened outside was about a care service in the yard that was not there and a service that may have been abused a lot.

He pointed out that on the other hand, there are some ‘home carers’ who provide a noble service, they took care of someone who needed their attention and they need to be praised for that.

“But the time has come where we are going to work with the new policies and vision of the government, to ensure that home care has a new status. Although this service has existed for many years, and has taken several forms, for the first time since its existence there is now a law that governs this service and the role of the Seychelles Home Care Agency is to make sure that this service remains within the legal framework what the law gives,” Mr. Kallée said.

Mr. Kallée said that among the many other tasks that they are starting to do in the near future is an exercise to register all the ‘carers’ who are already active. There are around 3400 ‘carers’ who are registered with this agency who are providing care for around 3300 who need this help.

“We want the service to be targeted, that when the carer enters the yard, he knows exactly what needs his container. But we also want to make sure that any form of fraud on this service is eliminated,” Mr. Kallée said.

He thanked the Department of Social Protection who have worked for many years with this service and other people for their help, guidance and support when needed.

In an interview with the media, the main registrar of this agency, Medline Freminot, said that this new development has brought more space and comfort in private conditions for all customers who will come to request their services.

“The difference is that the services are more specialized because before we had only one section where we did the registration and visits classified under ‘monitoring’ together. But there is a separation where a group does the registration and a group that does ‘monitoring’. It means that there will be more visits that will be made in the courtyard of people who need care,” Mrs. Freminot said.

The artist Urny Mathiot designed the logo for Lazance for Home Care and in his explanation to the audience, he said that he wanted to bring a living aspect of Creole in this logo, a national color that shows a house with a Creole architecture is being taken care of. by hand, encompassed in a tropical environment
