Africa-Press – Seychelles. As part of the governance, peace and stability project in Indianoceania, the Indian Ocean Commission held its statutory meeting of the Association of Parliamentarians of the Indian Ocean Commission (AP-COI), in Seychelles from 23 to May 26 at the Eden Bleu hotel.
Twenty-three (23) delegates from Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius and Seychelles were present. The Seychelles were represented by the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Honorable Roger Mancienne; the vice-president of the National Assembly, the Honorable Gervais Henrie; MPs Philip Monthy and Audrey Vidot and Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly of Seychelles, Alexandria Faure.
The objectives of the statutory meetings were to: adopt the statutes and internal regulations and validate the action plan of the association, as well as prepare the activities of the AP-COI for the year 2023 in accordance with the plan of stock.
The members also identified avenues for collaboration with strategic partners, in particular the IOC, and identified the themes for joint advocacy by the PA-COI.
This advocacy will be carried out with regional and international institutions, including the African Union, currently chaired by the Union of the Comoros.
This joint advocacy, to be brought to the level of the executive and consultative bodies of the African Union, aims to better promote the specific needs of the islands of the South-West Indian Ocean at the continental level.

The GPS project is funded by the French Development Agency (AFD) to the tune of 8 million euros. The duration of the project implementation is 54 months.
The Association of Parliamentarians of the Indian Ocean Commission was created on November 27, 1997, following the recommendations of the 13th Council of Ministers in 1996, but was only founded in November 2015 in Port-Louis, Mauritius. After a few years of inactivity, it was relaunched in November 2022 under the impetus of the IOC through the governance, peace and stability project and the president of the AP-COI and the Honorable Sooroojdev PHOKEER, GCSK, GOSK, Speaker of the National Assembly of Mauritius.
