Africa-Press – Seychelles. The Head of State, João Lourenço, regretted today the death of Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nayan, President of the United Arab Emirates, due to illness.
Former leaders, United Seychelles send condolences
Following the passing of the President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Seychelles’ former presidents James Michel and Danny Faure, as well as the leader of the United Seychelles party Patrick Herminie have sent messages of condolence to H.R.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
‘A foremost statesman of our time’
In his message former President Michel describes His Highness Sheikh Khalifa as “a foremost statesman of our time, an icon of respect, integrity and dignity, and an inspirational leader. “He was a selfless leader, uncompromising in his principles, a man of great compassion, a man of peace and tolerance who always promoted dialogue and consensus in the pursuit of peace and in the resolution of conflicts. His greatness of spirit and his principles shall remain an inspiration for us all.
“As we mourn the passing of the late His Highness Sheikh Khalifa, we remember with deep respect and revere his tremendous achievements in the transformation of the United Arab Emirates into a modern, democratic, peace-loving nation that is upheld as example to the rest of the world.
“You have lost a brother and the Emirates an inspirational, loving and compassionate leader, but the legacy of the late His Highness Sheikh Khalifa will continue to live on and be a source of inspiration for us all
“I pray that Allah the Most Merciful, the Most Beneficent grant you the courage and fortitude to surmount your great loss.
“Please accept, Your Highness, my deepest sympathies and condolences, which I kindly request that you convey to the Royal Family, to the Rulers and the people of the United Arab Emirates, as well as the assurances of highest consideration and respect.”
‘A great leader who knew how to lead his country to the next stage of its development’
For former President Danny Faure, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan was indeed “a great leader who knew how to lead his country to the next stage of its development which is globally acclaimed.
“He contributed significantly to strengthen the bonds of friendship and solidarity between our two nations. He stood at our side during the most critical stages of our development, particularly since the 2008 financial crisis. We shall ever remain grateful to him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
“We thus join you in mourning this great loss, and assure you of our steadfastness in maintaining and further developing our friendship and understanding.”
‘Sheikh Khalifa has been instrumental in the economic development of Seychelles’
The leader of the United Seychelles party, Dr Patrick Herminie, says that His Highness, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has been instrumental in the economic development of Seychelles and had played an important role in consolidating the excellent relationship that exists between the two countries since they established diplomatic relations in 1982.
“The United Seychelles party is confident that the strong bilateral relationship will remain intact between the two countries through a shared vision and that the people of the United Arabs Emirates will continue to witness great statesmanship.
“Once again, accept our deepest condolences.”
