Africa-Press – Seychelles. Pelé’s funeral procession took place this Tuesday, after a 24-hour wake in Vila Belmiro, where the Santos stadium is located, in São Paulo, and went to the opposite end of the city to pass by his mother’s house, Dona Celeste, who turned 100 on the 20th of November.

Edson Arantes do Nascimento was buried in the Memorial Necrópole Ecuménica, which began to be built in the neighborhood of Marapé in 1983 and since 1991 has been included in the Guinness Book of Records for being the highest vertical cemetery in the world, overlooking the Vila Belmiro stadium .

The Brazilian star chose to be buried there and 20 years ago bought a space to place the coffin on the ninth floor (there are 14 in total), where his father Dondinho (died in 1996) and brother Zoca (deceased in 2020) are buried, already that conveyed “spiritual peace and tranquility”, he clarified, at the time, in an interview with the newspaper Tribuna.

Pelé’s family, however, decided that he should be buried in the mausoleum located on the first floor. The space will be opened for visits in the next few days, but the administration has not yet defined the dates.
