Africa-Press – Seychelles. The prison service will once again hold its Prison Service Week from September 7 to 13, 2022.
The service week provides an opportunity to not only recognise staff and the good work performed but also other initiatives underway and in support of rehabilitation of inmates.
The service week remains under the theme ‘Working together towards success’.
Previously a fixture within the prison service’s calendar of events, the prison service brought the event back in September last year, recalling that the last event prior was held on February 3, 2009 under then Superintendent of Prisons, Gelage Hoareau. The return of Prison Service Week is now observed each September and will serve as a key milestone for the service each year.
The main feature for the week will be a recognition for staff and their professional service to date.
Further a rededication mass for the prison patron saint, St Adrian, with his feast day being September 8.
Community service activities in support of ‘Respe nou Vwazinaz’, sports activities, opening of new facilities at the main prison, the commissioning of a new inmate transport, a special mass of Thanksgiving at the Anse Boileau church, to name but a few.
“For the past several years we have been working to improve the image of the Seychelles Prison Service and how we deliver our work. The work is arduous as many who are convicted face chronic medical issues, addictions, or other behavioural issues. As well, it has been our pleasure for the past five years to present the service before the public at our observation of Nelson Mandela Day, recalling our most recent held on July 27, 2022 at the University of Seychelles. The timing this year coincides with an approach by government to see an improved service delivery by the public service with the launch of a results based management for 2023. Our focus certainly remains on staff performing to expectations so that our goals and objectives are met and as we buy into national objectives,” Raymond St Ange, Commissioner of Seychelles Prison Service, said.
