Africa-Press – Seychelles. The Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism has announced the resumption of outbound group travel by Chinese citizens to Seychelles, among other countries, which means travel agencies can now provide group tours services to Chinese citizens willing to visit Seychelles.

The announcement made on August 10, 2023 was shared by the chargé d’affaires from the Chinese embassy, Mu Jianfeng.

In February this year, China decided to relax measures against Class-B infectious diseases, which allows its citizens to travel to Seychelles and other countries, for the purpose of tourism.

The resumption of group tours is a further step towards the resumption of China-Seychelles tourism cooperation, which is an important part of China-Seychelles relations and channel for people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Before the Covid-19, a large number of Chinese tourists came to Seychelles with a record of 14,549 arrivals set in 2016. The visits not only made positive contributions to the economic development of Seychelles, but also helped to boost the bilateral relations.

“At the moment, Chinese tourists are looking forward to explore and discover this beautiful island country. Chinese travel agencies take Seychelles as an important destination, while their Seychelles counterparts are doing marketing to attract visitors from China. It is believed that the beauty and hospitality of Seychelles will draw more Chinese tourists in the near future,” noted Mr Mu.

To recall, in March 2023, Tourism Seychelles welcomed the first major group of Chinese travel agents and media to the destination since the reopening of the borders in China in early January 2023. The group was in Seychelles between January and February and comprised travel agents, wedding planners and KOL media partners.

The agents and media’s focus were on the high-end market, weddings and honeymoons, eco-tourism and the cultural aspect of the destination. They target both consumers directly through different channels, such as social media and business clientele through direct cooperation with different corporate businesses.
