Africa-Press – Seychelles. The Seychelles Association of Retired Education Professionals (Sarep), a young association, ended the year with a joyful Christmas party at the Lighthouse Restaurant.
Some 120 retired teachers came together for the event.
Jeanne Siméon, chairperson of Sarep, noted that 2022 has been a great year for their young association.
“In April we launched our motto and by mid-year we have increased our membership base to more than 80. Today we have reached the 100 mark and still counting. The main activities for this year have been the hosting of our first social activity on the occasion of Teachers’ Week in October where a free raffle draw was held. Following the official launch, we entered into partnership with the Oral Health Committee in the Ministry of Health to launch the first Health and Wellbeing activity with the Oral Health Education and Screening Programme for Sarep members,” shared Mrs Siméon.
Sarep has also formed its first subcommittees: Project and Research, Fund Raising and Events and Marketing and Archives.
The Project and Research subcommittee has started work on a major national project ‘Read with me Seychelles’ with the objective of encouraging parents and family members to read aloud to young children regularly for pleasure, in order to support their language, emotional and social development.
The Marketing and Archives subcommittee has started to promote the Association through the use of different marketing strategies, to publicise what it does and strengthen the bond with the members and the community.
The Fund Raising and Events has been actively planning and organising all the social events and two fund raising activities under the name open markets had been held with good outcomes.
Mrs Siméon also announced that Sarep has been able to sign the lease for their office situated in the Secti building at Roche Caiman and will be open three days a week – Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9am to 12 noon.
Sarep also has representatives on Praslin and La Digue.
The end-of-year activity was animated by a group of former and current teachers and ended with a dinner, a raffle and dance.
