Africa-Press – Seychelles. The Seychelles resident ambassador in Beijing, Anne Lafortune, presented her credentials to Emperor Naruhito of Japan in a ceremony held at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on Monday, September 25, 2023.

During the presentation of credentials, Emperor Naruhito and Ambassador Lafortune engaged in a meaningful conversation on various topics that directly impact Seychelles.

Among the subjects raised were the sustainable development of Seychelles, the pressing issue of climate change, the importance of tourism, and the potential for increased cooperation between Seychelles and Japan.

Emperor Naruhito also conveyed his best wishes to President Wavel Ramkalawan and expressed his desire for further strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries.

During her accreditation visit to Japan, Ambassador Lafortune held a bilateral meeting with the Vice-Minister for foreign affairs.

The meeting was an opportunity to discuss matters of shared interest, including capacity building, maritime security, climate change, tourism cooperation, the blue economy and Seychelles participation in Expo 2025 in Osaka.

The Seychelles ambassador also expressed her deep gratitude for Japan’s continuous support and assistance over the years.

Diplomatic relations between Seychelles and Japan were established in June 1976, and since then, the two nations have enjoyed a fruitful partnership based on mutual respect and cooperation.
