In a landmark moment for Seychelles’ youth and education, the country’s first-ever Inter-School Chess Tournament culminated in an inspiring award ceremony yesterday at the National Theatre in Mont Fleuri.

The event, which took place over five rounds in July 2025, has already set the stage for a new era of intellectual sport in Seychelles.

Thirteen teams from across the archipelago competed in this inaugural tournament, each demonstrating impressive skill and determination.

At yesterday’s ceremony, every team was honoured with certificates of participation, a testament to the organisers’ commitment to fostering inclusion, encouragement, and sportsmanship among young players.

Emerging as the undisputed overall champions was Children’s House, whose team members – Camilo Fernando Macho, Rosie Whalley, Akhuranth Kempanahali, Mahesh Kumar, and Leo Elizabeth – impressed audiences with their remarkable consistency, focus, and teamwork.
