Seychelles President Wavel Ramkalawan inaugurated a new hospital on the island of La Digue thanks to a contribution provided by the President of the General Women’s Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Maternity and Childhood, Supreme President of the Family Development Foundation (FDF) and Mother of the Emirati Nation, Fatima bint Mubarak.
The new state-of-the-art hospital, located on the third most populous island in the Seychelles, was built for a value of more than 25 million dirhams, in accordance with the directives of the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. , and under the supervision of the representative of the Ruler in the Al Dhafra Region and president of the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The opening of the La Digue hospital is in line with the UAE’s humanitarian approach of assisting partner nations with vital development projects, especially in the healthcare sector.
The hospital is a major project and will help improve the quality of healthcare services for residents of the island and nearby islands.
In a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Ramkalawan expressed his gratitude to President Mohamed, and his appreciation for Fatima’s generous donation, which financed the construction of the hospital as a gift to the people of La Digue.
Ramkalawan said the construction of the hospital is part of Mohamed’s ongoing humanitarian support for Seychelles and its people. He also recalled the Emirati President’s directives during the Covid-19 pandemic to provide his country with vaccines and medical equipment, which enabled the people of Seychelles to further contain the pandemic, reflecting the strong and exceptional relations between the two countries.
For his part, ERC Acting Secretary General Hamoud Abdullah Al Junaibi said the opening of the health care center represents the deep-seated ties between the peoples of the United Arab Emirates and Seychelles, describing it as the result of strong cooperation. and association between the two countries.
“This project helps realize the UAE’s sustainable giving strategy through the implementation of ambitious development programs and projects that have a profound impact on developing infrastructure and delivering essential services to partner nations. The UAE always stands by strives to enhance its humanitarian initiatives in Seychelles,” he said.
He also expressed his gratitude to all who contributed to the development of the project, especially the Seychelles government and the officials of the country’s Ministry of Health.
Al Junaibi highlighted that the hospital is equipped to offer services to about 3,000 residents annually and was established in accordance with the latest international standards and equipped with state-of-the-art devices and equipment, covering various medical specialties required by the island and the surrounding areas.
For his part, the ambassador of the United Arab Emirates affirmed that Fatima’s generous gesture is further proof of the spirit of the United Arab Emirates, adding that the hospital will also offer its service to the people of the neighboring island of Praslin.
Al Neyadi expressed his thanks and appreciation to President Mohamed, Fatima and Hamdan bin Zayed for their great support in these projects.
ERC External Project Management Director Ahmed Al Hajri explained that the hospital is the first multi-specialty hospital on the island of La Digue and offers various services, including physiotherapy, emergency care, general medicine, dental care, audiology, ophthalmology, in addition to incorporating operating rooms, recovery rooms, renal dialysis units and maternity care for women, among others.
The hospital also has ultrasound, cardiology, medical gas, and medical sterilization units, as well as laboratories and medical waste treatment units, as well as male, female, and infant rooms, isolation rooms, and a natural delivery room.
