Africa-Press – Seychelles. Cambridge United has announced that its second-year scholar, Samuel Okolie, has been called up to the Seychelles senior men’s national team for their upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers against Mauritius and Kenya.
Okolie, of Nigerian heritage, will link up with the squad for international duty between August 27 and September 10, marking a major milestone in his young career.
This achievement follows on from Okolie’s recent involvement with the Seychelles U-17 training camp, where he spent a month gaining valuable international experience. His development and performances during that time have now been rewarded with a place in the senior side.
Cambridge’s Academy Manager, Dom Knighton, said, “We are delighted for Samuel and his family following his first call-up to the Seychelles Senior Men’s side for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers.
“Sam has only recently returned from a month with the U17 Seychelles Training Camp, which was a brilliant opportunity and has now led to this senior recognition.
“As we continue to drive the standard and level of player within our Academy, we remain committed to providing and supporting opportunities for our players to gain international recognition.
“Everyone within the Academy and wider Club is proud of Sam, and we wish him the very best of luck whilst he is away.
“Everyone at Cambridge United congratulates Samuel on this fantastic achievement and looks forward to seeing him represent his country on the international stage.”
