SRC reminds public of its ‘acceptance of gift policy’

Africa-Press – Seychelles. The Seychelles Revenue Commission (SRC) is advising members of the public to refrain from giving any form of offering such as gifts, benefits or hospitality services to its management and staff as it is against the organisation’s policy.

The director general for support services, Christelle Betsy, said that in line with SRC’s ‘Acceptance of Gift Policy’, the management and members of staff are not allowed to accept such offerings.

She noted that SRC has in place such working values which management and staff have to observe and uphold at all times.

She added that given the work that they do, they have to be impartial and to show professionalism in what they do without favour.

“If we accept gifts from people, some could maybe do it with the intention of receiving something in return and we want to remind them and the members of staff as well, that the work we are doing, we are doing it with professionalism and that we are not expecting any favours or vice versa,” Ms Betsy said.

Ms Betsy noted that in the past, staff were allowed to receive gifts from clients and which they were obliged to report to the management and file them to thereafter use them during the organisation’s social activities.

“For some time now, one is not allowed to take any offerings from anybody in our line of duty to prevent the occurrence of favours which may arise. Everybody in the organisation is well aware of the policy,” Ms Betsy said.

She noted she was not aware if the management or staff are receiving offerings from members of the public as per the Acceptance of Gift Policy in place given that no one has up to now come forward to report on staff members accepting gifts.

She added that disciplinary action will be taken against members of staff in the event of proven evidence they have accepted offerings in their line of duty.
