Africa-Press – Seychelles. Eighty (80) years after the Bretton Woods conference, it is high time to reform the international financial system. On the initiative of the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron, France welcomes on June 22 and 23, 2023 more than 300 heads of state and government, international organizations and representatives of the private sector and civil society in Paris ‒ Palais Brongniart.

The objective of this meeting is to lay the foundations of a new financial system to meet the common challenges of the 21st century: the fight against inequalities, climate change and the protection of biodiversity.

The President of the Republic of Seychelles Wavel Ramkalawan was also among the guests but unfortunately will not be able to make the trip.

This forum has ambitious objectives whose public debt of all countries has reached unprecedented levels since the Covid-19 crisis. One-third of developing countries and two-thirds of low-income countries face a high risk of debt distress. The trend of poverty reduction observed for several decades has come to a halt. Financial solidarity therefore appears more necessary than ever. This is why this meeting has set itself the objective of putting in place a global financial architecture that is strong enough to provide more resources, to protect the most vulnerable countries against shocks and to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). , to restore the long-term trend of poverty reduction, and to protect global public goods such as climate and health.

This summit is inclusive and brings together several actors. The President of the French Republic has invited Heads of State and Government, representatives of global financial institutions and representatives of the private sector and civil society to Paris in order to lay the foundations of a new system to meet common challenges.

During these two days, there will be 6 round tables, 50 side events including more than 70 private sector partners and philanthropists, more than 100 invited Heads of State and Government, more than 40 international organizations and more than 120 NGOs and coalitions of NGOs.
