Africa-Press – Seychelles. A total of 17,123 payments have been effected for the month of August, 2022 under the temporary government measures to support lower income earners.

This was announced by the director general for National Planning, Lenny Palit in a press meet held yesterday morning at the Ministry of Finance, National Planning and Trade.

Provisionally, 15,928 individuals have received payment for salary support, whereas 521 have received payment for additional electricity support.

As explained earlier by the Minister for Finance, National Planning and Trade Naadir Hassan “those getting assistance from the Agency for Social Protection (ASP) would also get a temporary increase of R500 per month and this applies to pensioners, home carers and those on invalidity benefits or social benefits. Pensioners whose revenue is above R9,000 will not qualify.”

This temporary measure also makes provision for people with revenue less than R9,000 and with an electricity bill on their names to get additional support of R300 on their bills.

So far, shared Mr. Palit, for private sector employees, as well as for all those who were seeking the additional electricity support of R300, payment has been effected for the first time.

“This first time payment means that the above individuals have received a back pay for the month of July, on top of their August payment. Provisional statistics show that a total of R7,680,510 has been paid for the month of August. Payment under the programme was made during the last three days of the month of August. A lot of work has been done to be able to verify the accounts and now a consolidated payroll consisting of all employees and beneficiaries from ASP who qualify under the programme is being used as of August,” explained Mr Palit.

He admitted that there have been some omissions and those will be rectified by September 5 the latest.

Mr Palit urged individuals who are yet to receive payment to direct their queries to the Hotline 190 or 2606368.

The next steps to facilitate this process will be to revise the cases that have been rejected, update the system, work on

Th emethods used to collect information amongst others.
