Africa-Press – Seychelles. The French School of Seychelles (EFS) made its big start to the 2023-2024 season last Monday and the school welcomed more than 350 students. This year the EFS also welcomes a new director in the person of Madame Christine Guitton.

In a meeting with our newspaper, Mrs. Guitton tells us that “before joining the French School of Seychelles, I had the opportunity to work at the Lycée français de Shanghai, on the Yangpu campus where I was in charge of secondary education. Although the French school in Shanghai is a large establishment, the Yangpu campus, which has just over 500 students, is a human-sized establishment with a family atmosphere. This experience gave me an international perspective and made me aware of the richness of cultural diversity within a French institution in the network of French education abroad”.

From year to year, the EFS sees an increase in the number of recruits, what are the main lines of this institution?

Ms. Guitton notes that the main directions for the EFS are as follows:

– Foster an inclusive environment where each student feels welcomed and supported; Promote educational differentiation to meet the individual needs of each student; Strengthen multilingualism by offering learning opportunities in several languages; Maintain open and solid communication with parents to promote student success; Continue to develop the school program by integrating local cultural elements, such as Creole language and culture and develop the high school cycle.

This year the French School of Seychelles introduced a new element into the school program: Creole language and culture. “This initiative aims to raise awareness among our students of the cultural richness of the Seychelles while allowing them to better understand the links between the French language and the Creole language. This approach should also allow students to progress in their understanding of the French and English languages,” underlined the head of the school.

“I would like to thank the students, parents and staff for their continued commitment to the French School of Seychelles. I am enthusiastic about the idea of working in close collaboration with all members of the school community “as well as the France team in Seychelles (embassy, Alliance française, etc.) to achieve these objectives and promote France and la Francophonie,” concluded Ms. Guitton.

For the 2023 school year, the EFS welcomes 364 students and counts on 48 members of staff to support them throughout their educational journey.
