Africa-Press – Seychelles. Recently, a 73-year-old French citizen, Arielle Guichard, on vacation in the Seychelles with her husband Bruno, was found in distress at sea in Beau Vallon. She was rescued by a group of young Seychellois – Julio Agricole, Sabrina Sham-Laye, Neddy Carobert, Sean Sham-Laye and Cheyenne Sham-Laye – present on the scene.

In a small ceremony, yesterday, at the Department of Tourism, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Sylvestre Radegonde, expressed his deep gratitude as well as the government’s thanks to the courageous Seychellois who saved Ms. Arielle Guichard from drowning. could have turned tragic on the beach of Beau Vallon.

The incident occurred on Sunday, November 12 at around 6:45 p.m. At that moment, Julio Agricole, aged 32, was also in the sea and noticed that Mme Guichard was swimming in an unusual way. “When she passed by me, I noticed something strange, but I said that maybe it was her style.” A few minutes later, he saw his face floating in the water. Immediately, I went to the beach and looked for my friend, who is more competent in swimming than me, to go and save the lady in distress. Although we were not too far from the beach, we could not touch the sand. We brought him back to the beach, and his partner, who is a doctor, immediately took control of the situation. After several attempts at cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, Mrs. Guichard began to vomit,” said M. Agricole.

Thanks to the quick and determined action of these good Samaritans, Ms. Guichard was transported to the intensive care unit of the Hôpital des Seychelles, where she received the necessary medical care. Shortly after his admission, he regained consciousness, bringing a welcome relief to the family and the rescuers.

After receiving the necessary care at the Hôpital des Seychelles, Mme Guichard, accompanied by her husband Bruno, was repatriated to La Réunion thanks to their insurance. The couple has been staying at the Clef des Îles, at Beau Vallon since their arrival in the country on November 1, 2023.

Sabrina Sham-Laye added that she is in contact with Bruno and this woman, and that the latter is out of the hospital. “I was able to speak with Arielle yesterday (Monday), and she is clearly better. She wishes to thank the Seychelles Hospital for the care that was provided to her. The couple really appreciated the welcome they received and thanked the Seychellois for their attention and love.

Sabrina noted that the entire Guichard family is in contact with them and expressed her thanks to the Seychelles.

The Guichard couple made their 15th visit to the Seychelles. Sabrina notes that this should be their last visit, but they reiterated that they would return to the Seychelles again for vacations as long as they can.

Minister Radegonde, once again, reminded that tourism is everyone’s business, and what happened is an example of the spirit of solidarity and mutual aid that characterizes the Seychellois community. He held a salute to these anonymous heroes during a small ceremony in Victoria. He emphasized the importance of the community spirit and solidarity that make the Seychelles the strength of the Seychelles as a welcoming tourist destination.

“You are ambassadors, and it is in moments like this one that we realize to what extent our community is united and ready to come and help visitors in need. What you have done for the Seychelles cannot be classified in monetary terms”, added the principal secretary Ms. Sherine Francis.
