Africa-Press – Seychelles. Transparency Initiative Seychelles (TiS) is delighted to announce the launch of the inaugural Youth for Integrity training programme, co-funded by the National Grant Scheme, which is designed to welcome up to 30 secondary school students who are keen to make a positive difference in society.

The training will include a series of talks and activities to enhance the students’ knowledge on critical issues such as human rights, freedom of expression, access to information, social media guidelines, mental health, the role of the Judiciary, the role of the Ombudsman, the role of the Attorney General’s office, climate change, the environment, and more.

It is open to Secondary 4 (S4) students from Mahé, Praslin and La Digue who have a thirst for speaking the truth and who are passionate about becoming a positive influence in their community.

The programme will feature presentations and talks delivered by partners from several institutions, providing the students with a holistic understanding of integrity in different respects.

TiS aims to create an enabling environment where students can gain basic information so as to be better informed and equipped to share the same with their families and peers.

Each student will have the privilege of becoming an Integrity Ambassador and will receive a certificate for participating in the programme.

They will also be given the opportunity to share their ideas to TiS upon completion of the training so that they can also make their own direct contributions to the work of TiS.

“As Seychellois, we are a community that communicates very openly and very often through social media. The more time passes, the less control we have over the content that we consume and we need to be responsible for the content that we create. It is absolutely essential that in the formation of the next generation, who will fill in future positions in our public and private sectors, we have produced adults that are more highly attuned to the ethical risks that exist both online and off, and we want to inspire them to become the leaders that we need: honest, law-abiding and accountable,” said Chrystold Chetty, chairperson of TiS.

The Youth for Integrity Programme is scheduled to take place for one week in August 2023 and is now open for applications until June 5, 2023.

Details of the programme will be communicated to successful applicants.

All readers are encouraged to follow TiS on its social media pages to learn more.
