Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Ministry of Communication, Technology, and Innovation has announced the top five finalists for the Big Five Innovation Investment Challenge.
The announcement was made at an event showcasing innovative solutions designed to address key national issues.
The five finalists will now compete at the Sierra Leone Innovates: Digital Government Summit 2025 for a share of $60,000 in seed funding, which will be distributed among the top three winners.
The finalists and their projects are:
Mocha: A blockchain-powered solution facilitating cross-border payments via WhatsApp to enhance financial inclusion.
Cassavity SL Ltd: An initiative focused on producing high-quality cassava-based flour to mitigate post-harvest losses and reduce reliance on imported flour.
Solar Agric System: A project offering solar-powered crop drying and storage technologies to minimize post-harvest losses in agriculture.
Water Light Oswald Tech Company (SL) Ltd: A venture developing clean electricity generation from seawater to provide power to off-grid communities.
Insect-Based Organic Fertilizer: A project that converts organic waste into valuable fertilizer and livestock feed using black soldier fly larvae.
The Ministry stated that these innovative projects demonstrate a dedication to utilizing technology for sustainable development within Sierra Leone. The upcoming summit is expected to provide a platform for these entrepreneurs to present their ideas and contribute to the country’s progress.
