APC’s Osman Timbo Declares Intent to Run for 2028 Presidential Flagbearer

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. All People’s Congress (APC) Member of Parliament for the Western Area Urban District, Honorable Osman Timbo, publicly announced his candidacy for the party’s flagbearer in the upcoming 2028 National Presidential Elections.

The declaration took place on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at the Brookfields New Hotel in Freetown. The event drew numerous supporters who gathered to show their backing for Hon. Timbo’s ambition to lead the APC in the next presidential election.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Timbo outlined his vision for the APC and the country, emphasizing unity, inclusivity, and equitable governance. He stated his intention to bridge divides within the APC and across the nation.

Hon. Timbo confirmed the APC plans to unveil its new national leadership, including the flagbearer, in February 2026. “As this is the case, I now wish to inform you all publicly and state that, I Honorable Osman Timbo, am declaring my intention to lead my political party, the APC, contesting to be the future Flagbearer,” he announced.

Outlining his policy proposals, Hon. Timbo pledged to introduce a “National Development Plan” within his first 100 days in office if elected president. He described this plan as a long-term guiding document that would be submitted to Parliament for approval and intended to be binding across political administrations.

His vision also includes strengthening law enforcement, combating drug trafficking, investing in renewable energy, and promoting key economic sectors such as agriculture, tourism, fisheries, and trade. He further proposed a review of the tax system aimed at reducing taxes and advocated for effective industrialization policies and improvements to the health sector.

Hon. Timbo acknowledged the economic challenges faced by ordinary Sierra Leoneans and promised to address their concerns, highlighting the APC’s commitment to inclusivity across age, color, and background.

Reflecting on past political events, Hon. Timbo recalled the 72-hour ultimatum given to the Electoral Commission Sierra Leone by Dr. Samura Kamara and the subsequent tensions and violence that occurred, including fatalities at the party office and in various regions of the country. He paid tribute to those who lost their lives.

Highlighting his long-standing service to the APC and the nation, spanning over 15 years, Hon. Timbo cited his previous roles, including Deputy Regional Youths Leader, Acting Leader for the Western Area Youths, National Executive Secretary for the Youths League, and his election as a Member of Parliament in 2018. He also mentioned his contributions to the party’s administration and the drafting of the new APC Constitution, as well as his recent resignation as the national Deputy Secretary General to ensure fairness within the party secretariat.
