Labour Ministry Confirms Mass Dismissal of Over 1,000 Sierra Leoneans by Koidu Limited, Vows to Ensure Protection of Workers’ Rights

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security (MELSS) has confirmed that it has received copies of summary dismissal letters affecting more than 1,000 Sierra Leonean employees of Koidu Limited.

In a press release issued on May 6th, 2025, the Ministry assured all affected parties and stakeholders that the Government of Sierra Leone will take all necessary steps to ensure that the labour and employment rights of its citizens are fully protected in accordance with the country’s labour laws and international standards.

The Ministry also urged all affected and interested parties to remain calm as the situation is addressed and assured that updates will be provided to keep the public informed.
