UAE Donates 20000 Mpox Vaccines to Sierra Leone

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The United Arab Emirates has donated 20,000 Mpox vaccines to Sierra Leone to help curtail the spread of the virus.

The handing-over ceremony took place on Wednesday, June 4th 2025.

The vaccines were handed over to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation by the Sierra Leone Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates at Freetown International Airport in Lungi, Port Loko District.

Since the country recorded its first confirmed case earlier this year, the number of affected victims is increasing on a daily basis, bringing the total confirmed cases to surpass three thousand.

The Government through the Ministry of Health and Sanitation has issues public health guidelines citizens are requested to adhere with to prevent themselves from coming in contact with the virus. Additionally, the government will soon introduce new social distancing regulations to help contain the spread of the virus.

The new additional vaccines will help to speed recovery process of affected persons and also minimize contact risk of front-line workers after taking the vaccine,
