Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. On Day Two of the 2025 Sierra Leone Innovates Digital Government Summit, Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh launched the Tech Job Fair. The event supports the government’s plan to create jobs for young people in the tech sector, intending to provide 75,000 jobs in tech and 500,000 jobs overall.

Speaking to young people, government officials, and development partners, the Vice President explained that the job fair is a step to turn education into real job opportunities.

He said the summit continues a journey that began in 2018 when the People’s Manifesto was introduced, and President Bio stressed that real progress depends on investing in people. Since then, Sierra Leone has made strides in education, healthcare, and laws to empower women and girls. For example, the health budget has increased from 6 percent to 11.2 percent, and over 1.2 million children are now enrolled in school, with more girls staying in school than ever before.

Dr. Jalloh pointed out that education alone isn’t enough. It’s about making sure young people can apply what they learnt. That’s where the Tech Job Fair comes in, providing a chance for students and young tech workers to meet employers and find jobs.

He also talked about efforts to improve internet access, digital learning, and laws that protect young innovators’ ideas.

“Sierra Leone is building digital spaces and learning environments that match what you’d find in big cities like Washington or New York,” he said.

He thanked the Ministry of Communication, Technology and Innovation, private companies, and international partners for working together to make the event happen, stressing that teamwork like this helps build lasting change.

Over the next two days, the summit will focus on hands-on training and chances for young people to connect directly with companies looking to hire.

Closing his remarks, the Vice President encouraged youth to take full advantage of this opportunity. He said the government is committed to investing in young people and will not stop until every youth has access to good jobs and a brighter future.

He stressed that the digital age is here, and Sierra Leone’s youth must be ready to lead and take part.

The Tech Job Fair is an important step toward helping young people move from school into the workforce and play a big role in Sierra Leone’s growing digital economy.
